  • Little Nutkins welcomes Eversew Beautiful

Little Nutkins is so excited to expand our clothing range and to showcase the talents of the fabulous Eversew Beautiful.Eversew BeautifulThe brand was born out of necessity in 2012 when their founder, Kalee, couldn’t find bandana bibs on the market absorbent enough for her little dribbler. She decided to make her own and began making them for many other little ones. She soon expanded on this success and launched a clothing range of bold prints which stand out from the crowd, whilst maintaining comfort and style.

The aim of Eversew Beautiful is to bring unique fashion and style to children who rock their wardrobe as much as they rock our world. Despite their growth and success the clothing is still made ethically within the EU, in keeping with the ethos of the brand.

Their bold vision is backed up by equally bold prints on 100% GOTS certified organic cotton. Babies’ skin will appreciate the lack of nasty chemicals in the growing and production of this cotton, ensuring the fabric is super-soft.

The latest range is named ‘Your Mountain is Waiting’ and features black mountains printed on white and grey fabric. The range includes an amazingly designed poncho, with a hood, button details and banded cuffs in a contrasting yellow.

    YMIW Cape - White

The matching tops and bottoms in the range are just as stunning with the same contrasting yellow to the cuffs and waist.

Kalee, loves what she does and her passion shows in the detail she injects into her designs as well as in her approachable business style. Click here to view the range at Little Nutkins.

  • Little Nutkins welcomes Lara & Ollie

We are delighted to be introducing new brands this January at Little Nutkins. I am excited to expand the gift section of our store and have discovered an amazing brand of jewellery which not only looks great but helps teething babas too!

Lara & Ollie’s great looking teething necklaces and bangles are designed specifically to be worn by mums with babies and small children.

Many women (myself included) stop wearing jewellery day-to-day once they become a mum. Jewellery suddenly seems very scary and sharp. The fear of scratching, poisoning and choking is too much to deal with, leading to outfits often going dangerously un-accessorised!

But Lara & Ollie’s fab pieces are made from high-quality, food-grade silicone. They meet Europe-wide safety standards and have been rigorously tested…not least by their growing army of mum and baby fans. They are designed specifically for babies to feel, grab and gnaw on to ease the pain of teething.

    AVA Necklace - model

The necklaces feature colourful, hexagonal beads and the bracelets come in beautiful matching colours. Each necklace features beads of different colours, so they go with loads of different outfits. They can be dressed up or down…and you don’t even have to be with baby to wear them!

They look like a fun and colourful jewellery piece but have the added benefit of being bright and interesting to little people and resilient to grabby fingers and chewy mouths. The necklace beads are set on a strong cord which features a safety more garrotting by baby!

We hope you love this brand and look forward to your feedback on their great necklaces and bracelets. Follow Lara & Ollie on Instagram to see how great they look and click here to view our range in store.

  • Little Nutkins is...busy, busy!

This week has been a productive one at Little Nutkins, but also lots of fun. I’ve had the opportunity to meet new people and to show off our little store – two things I love to do!

Monday was the first day of our Retailer of the Week slot over at Junior Style. We’re really pleased to be collaborating with them as they act as a platform for some amazing independent retailers, like ourselves (!), as well as showcasing some fabulous brands.

Tuesday has long been considered the dullest weekday, for me. Not the fresh start to the week but not the middle yet either…just Tuesday. But this particular one began better than most, by attending the first meeting of the Mamas Collective – a brand new group hosting mama meetups, workshops & events.

Mamas Collective Manchester Mamas Collective Manchester

There were some ultra-savvy, super-cool mamas in attendance and some pretty cute babes too! It’s nice to meet new ladies who adore motherhood but are also looking for new and exciting ways to use their skills and awesomeness! It’s also a relief sometimes to discover that you are still able to hold an actual, proper conversation which doesn’t involve discussing the latest Topsy & Tim storyline or repeatedly asking whether somebody needs the toilet.

I look forward to seeing how the collective develops and to the next meet-up. There were some great ideas flying round for potential future events and workshops, all aimed at providing support, encouragement – even a bit of the elusive ‘me time’ –  to fab ladies with young children. If you would like to find out more, then here’s how to get in touch:

The meet-up was held in Manchester’s Northern Quarter at Zieferblat – my first time here. It’s a large, welcoming venue which aims to be a place where visitors can do as they please in a homely environment, paying for nothing more than the time they spend at the venue on a per minute basis. Guests are encouraged to visit in order to work, study, relax, attend events, eat cake and have a brew….the last two on that list are certainly a priority for me! To find out more about this venue and their unique ethos, you can find them here.

This week has also seen us feature in the Wholesale Spotlight over at Little Green Radicals, one of our favourite brands. Find me chatting here in a short Q&A discussing organic & fairtrade children’s clothing and what I love about LGR!

And finally this week, we will be taking part in Small Business Saturday on 5th December. This is a UK-wide, grassroots, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to shop small.

We will be taking part by offering customers to our business a 20% discount on everything in store by quoting LNSBS20 at the checkout!

  • Little Nutkins says…Sleep Tight!

Now that the evenings have drawn in and it’s dark by teatime, the need to snuggle under blankets and invest in new, warm PJs has well and truly taken over here at Little Nutkins HQ.

We have a range of lovely, cosy nightwear in our store now, for all ages of children and babies. Here is a run-down of our favourites:

OC-755 (1) Woodland Nightgown in Blue

These fabulous sleep ‘bundlers’ by Piccalilly are perfect for allowing as much wriggly movement as your little squidgy one desires without disturbing them. They are made from organic cotton, free from any nasties, so are super-soft against baby’s skin. And the woodland design features some gorgeous animals, including deer, owls and bears.

OC-743 (1) Woodland Nightgown in Pink

The integrated mitts stop any night time scratching (their finger nails are so tiny and soft, so how do they cause the havoc of a small wild cat?!) and the envelope neck allows the gown to be put on and taken off, both upwards and downwards, should a nappy disaster arise! A unique, elasticated / drawstring bottom opening ensures that any middle of the night nappy changes are speedy and hassle-free. No poppers or fiddly feet to try and conquer at 3am after wiping yet another pooey bum!

TBC Slim Jyms TBC Slim Jyms

Little Nutkins favourite, The Bright Company, focus on bright colours and strong graphic prints in their beautiful sleepwear. They produce unisex designs that let children be children, free from gender stereotyping, and that allow their products to be passed on to little brothers, sisters, cousins or friends. All their collections are designed and produced in Britain, by suppliers who pride themselves on high quality production. Attention to details is key to produce excellent fitting nightwear. Cuffs on the sleeves and legs eliminate any cold patches and ensuring a cosy night’s sleep.

TBC Loll Dress TBC Loll Dress

Little Nutkins is proud to stock their Polka Moons design in the gorgeous Monty Sleepsuit, Loll Dress & famous Slim Jyms. We also have this design on the Knapp blanket – a perfect complement to any of their nightwear.

  • Little Nutkins says…Hello!

LN logo - typeWe are so pleased to be up and running and to have launched the new and improved (even if I do say so myself!) Little Nutkins. From a basic retail site with cute baby and children’s clothes, we have taken over, approached new suppliers and curated a range including high quality kid’s clothes made from organic fabrics by ethical brands.

We feel that organic cotton is the best option for children’s clothing. It is free from pesticides and harsh chemicals, meaning it’s both kinder to the environment and super-soft and gentle on babies’ and young children’s skin. Brands such as Little Green Radicals produce their clothing with cotton which, as well as being organic, is also Fairtrade. This ensures a fair price for the cotton which, in turn, provides social and economic stability for farmers and their families. It makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside and out!

The-Little-Green-Radicals-Story The Little Green Radicals Story

So you can shop with us, knowing your little people’s skin is taken care of BUT that they still look great in fun, modern threads. We have taken great care to pick styles which are current and cool but are still children friendly. So many high street shops stock small versions of adult clothes which are not appropriate to the movement and freedom required by busy little movers. We have chosen to avoid slogan t-shirts which feature statements about the wearers’ preference for tantrums, being a princess or a cheeky monkey. We prefer to let kids be kids in comfortable yet stylish pieces.

We have taken care to stock hard wearing, durable clothes and some of which are unisex, meaning they can be passed down to lucky brothers, sister, cousins reducing waste and helping your pocket!

For babies, you will find brands such as Organic Zoo, with their unisex baby clothing in navy, grey and Breton stripes, featuring understated cool designs of raindrop, bowtie and lash prints.

    Organic Zoo Organic Zoo

Blade & Rose inject a rainbow of colour, with their matching leggings, socks and bibs in super-bright designs. Each pair of leggings features a cute picture on the bottom, including a dinosaur, rocket and Russian doll.

Toddlers and older children will be ready for fun adventures in cool, modern brands such as Lilly & Sid and bedtimes are made much more fun with beautiful nightwear from The Bright Company.

The Bright Company The Bright Company

We have present ideas in our gift section which features, amongst other goodies, Bob & Blossom number tees. These are great for little ones birthdays, allowing the birthday boy or girl to wear their age with pride! And their Brother & Sister sweatshirts are perfect to help celebrate the birth of a new sibling.

Also in our gift section, is a large range of cards for all occasions including birthdays and new babies.

Bob & Blossom Bob & Blossom

We look forward to hearing your feedback about our site and to keeping you up to date with our future plans, which includes the addition of a nursery and décor range, toys and increasing our gift and clothing ranges.

  • What are our favorite brands?

Shopping for children’s’ clothing can be fun but overwhelming; you obviously want the best for your child and so do we. Little Nutkins is where you can shop for both unisex and gender oriented baby clothing items that are not just affordable but also very safe for the environment as well.

There are a lot of designers for kids fashion out there and they all may look adorable but not everyone can afford the extremely high price tag. Plus, why spend so much money on one clothing item when they will just grow out of it in the blink of an eye?

The brands sold at Little Nutkins are all made with high quality and great craftsmanship, this way you know you will be getting a lot for what little bit of money you will be spending on all that we have to offer.

Why Little Nutkins chooses to stock the brands that they do?

The brands we sell include Funky Feet Fashions, Olive & Moss, Starchild and Stardust. These brands are all reliable, durable, and affordable for both little boys and little girls.

    Funky Feet Fashions

The reason that Funky Feet Fashions is a part of us is because they hand make all of their shoes and do so with a ton of love.

    Olive & Moss

Olive & Moss is known for always having the best gift ideas when it comes to little kids but they also have some of the most adorable lines of clothing available that are more than just appealing but they are very comfortable as well.

Starchild is another brand that makes all kinds of shoes; there are a lot of these shoes to choose from and they all are designed to last a long time and never hurt their feet or ankles.

Last, but by no means least, is Stardust, who are known for their catchy slogan, ‘Rags for Rascals’. Most of their clothing is more geared towards young boys, but don’t be fooled as they also have some great clothes for girls too.

Why not take a look at the collections we have for babies and children today? If you have any questions about anything do not hesitate to ask; we are extremely friendly and love to always be of assistance to our customers.

If money is still a little tight with our already cheap prices simply check out are page of sale items; everything is always updated and new items are being added all of the time

  • Is your baby’s wardrobe ready for summer?

When it comes time to summer, your baby’s wardrobe will be very different than what they wear in spring, autumn, and winter, so you’ll need to be prepared when shopping.

As at any time of year, you’ll probably be changing your baby numerous times every day – don’t forget how messy babies can be – so account for more than one outfit per day.

It’s hard to know what size clothes to buy for your baby as they grow out of newborn and 0-3 months pretty quickly. Generally speaking, we’d suggest buying a few different sizes as you can always return what doesn’t fit.

The number of items you’ll need depends on how often you plan to wash clothes. If you do the laundry every day, just one or two will suffice, but for a new mum, once a week is probably much more realistic!

Here’s a quick checklist to help you understand what you need for your baby this summer,

The great thing about all-in-ones is that your little one can where them both for sleeping and playing. Don’t forget newborns will sleep more than they’re awake for the first few days and weeks, so don’t worry about having fancy outfits at this time.

If you prefer separates – after all, they’re easier to change - look for a t-shirt with a wide neck, or buttons at the neck, so you don’t irritate your baby when pulling it over the head.

Pair your t-shirts with something comfortable like leggings or sweatpants, rather than jeans, as the material is more flexible. Also look for an elastic waistband so they’re not tight over his or her tummy.

It may be summer, but babies lose body heat much faster than adults, so it’s important to keep them warm. A button up cardigan or jacket will be best as babies don’t usually like having clothes pulled over the head.

    Socks & booties

A baby’s feet should almost always be covered up, even in summer. As babies are inclined to kick them off at any given moment, it’s important to have a good collection of socks and booties at home, and plenty in the changing bag when you’re on the go.

Your baby needs to be kept warm, but he or she should also be protected from the sun. A broad-brimmed hat is perfect for a summer’s day – again make sure you have a spare.

  • How to get the Royal baby look

After what seemed like an eternity, Princess Charlotte has arrived! Weighing in at a very healthy weight of eight pounds and three ounces, everyone is now waiting to see what the little Princess will be wearing.

We think she’ll definitely be setting the trends in the future, given that her mother, the Duchess of Cambridge is always elegant and stylish.

A little more than two years ago, when she gave birth to Prince George, Kate left the hospital wearing a blue polka dot dress, which had been custom made by fashion expert Jenny Packham.

This time around, she was also photographed wearing another custom made frock from the same well-known fashion designer. It was a nice white dress with a bunch of yellow flowers on the top flowing downwards, ideal for the summer of season.

If you want to add a touch of royalness to your child’s wardrobe, what should you be looking for?

Well, first remember that royal baby clothes aren’t that different from normal children’s’ clothing. The price tags may be a lot more expensive and the names of the brands may not be familiar to you but you can find similar items elsewhere that are easily affordable for anyone’s’ budget.

Prince George is commonly seen in cardigans that are is a matching color to the shirt his father wears. A Sous Marine cardigan is one of Prince George’s favourites, and since been spotted in it, people have been out to buy them by the bucketload.

Some other brands that Prince William enjoys seeing his son and daughter in are Aden and Anais as well as Rachel Riley.

As for Princess Charlotte, bright colors will look great with her skin tone, and as she gets older more of a layered look will be probably preferred. It’s also thought that she’ll wear a lot of bright with solid colors and simple patterns.

Short sleeves, skirts and dresses will be her go to looks for everyday wear whereas jeans and a nice overcoat will be what she wears on the typical British cold, wet, and windy.

Whatever style she goes for, it’s safe to say that she will have the same elegant, sophisticated and poised, fashion sense as Kate.

Kid’s designer clothes are a major trend amongst the royals, celebrities, and well anyone else who can afford it, but you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to get a similar look. Instead of adorning your kids in expensive outfits, take a look at what we have to offer. You can create the same style with other brands, that aren’t quite as heavy on the pocket.
